Travel Assistance and Practical Support

When Distance Becomes a Barrier

For many Arizona residents, obtaining abortion healthcare services can require significant travel.

Patients living in rural communities, small towns, tribal communities, or border regions may need to travel hundreds of miles to reach a healthcare provider. Others may require care that is not available in their local community and must seek services elsewhere in Arizona or, in some circumstances, outside the state.

The cost of transportation, lodging, meals, childcare, and missed work can quickly become overwhelming.

CAN helps eligible individuals overcome these practical barriers.

Why Travel Assistance Matters

Many of the people who contact CAN are already facing financial hardship. Adding travel expenses to an already stressful situation can delay care or make it difficult to obtain services altogether.

Travel-related barriers often affect:

• Rural Arizona residents
• College students living away from home
• Individuals without reliable transportation
• Patients with childcare responsibilities
• Patients requiring multiple appointments
• Individuals seeking specialized care not available locally

CAN’s goal is to help reduce these obstacles whenever possible.

Types of Practical Support

Depending on available funding and individual circumstances, CAN may be able to assist with:

• Gas and transportation expenses
• Bus or airline travel
• Lodging assistance
• Childcare support
• Meals during travel
• Other approved practical support needs

All requests are reviewed individually.

Important Notice

CAN does not require patients to choose a specific clinic. We work with multiple licensed providers to support access based on patient needs and availability.

CAN is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance, practical support, education, and resource information.

CAN does not provide medical care, medical advice, diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or healthcare services. Individuals are responsible for selecting and consulting with their own licensed healthcare providers regarding medical decisions.
